Richard joined the School of Social Work at Texas State University as a Per Course Lecturer in 2021 then transitioned to FT Lecturer in 2022. Additionally, he is the Diversity Team Lead as part of the Curriculum Committee. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wichita State University, a Master of Social Work from Washburn University, and a Master of Business Administration from Newman University. Currently, he is working on his Ph.D. in Social Work at Louisiana State University.

Richard's research interests include utilizing Hip Hop based interventions to address mental health issues with African American youth. Additionally, Richard continues his works with exploring African American fathers parenting from prison, African American fatherhood, and race-related issues. Prior to engaging in research, he has experience working with youth, families, and in public schools. He has taught as an Adjunct Instructor at Texas Christina University, Louisiana State University, Navarro College, Tarrant County College, Strayer University, Brown Mackie College, Remington College, and Butler Community College.

His works have been published in Spectrum: A Journal on Black Men, In Racial Inequality, Xenophobia, and Populism: New Forms of Racism in the United States and around the Globe, In A. Akande (Ed.) Globalization, human rights and populism: Reimagining people, power, and places, and Family Relations
