School of Social Work Scholarships
The School of Social Work has several scholarships available to current BSW and MSW students. Please read below to learn more about these funding opportunities and application criteria.

The awarding of the scholarships is for the 2023 - 2024 Academic Year.
Student notifications sent early March 2023.

Dorothy Jean and Walter Richter Endowed Scholarship
The Dorothy Jean and Walter Richter Scholarship honors their steadfast dedication to promoting the common good in our society through distinguished life-long public service. This scholarship is available to students in good standing accepted in the bachelor's and/or master’s degree program in the School of Social Work.
BSW applicants must show an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and MSW applicants must show an undergraduate and/or graduate GPA of at least 3.0 as verified by the official transcript provided by the SSW office. Applicant must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the duration of the scholarship as verified by the SSW office.
Award Amount: Up to $3400
Number of Awards: 2 per academic year
KAREN BROWN SOCIAL WORK ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship has been established by the friends and colleagues of Dr. J. Karen Brown in recognition of her distinguished contributions to the TXST School of Social Work. It recognizes her deep commitment to social work practice with vulnerable children and families. This scholarship is available to students in good standing accepted in the bachelor or master’s degree programs in the School of Social Work. This scholarship rotates between MSW and BSW students.
Award Amount: Up to $2000
Number of Awards: 1 per academic year
TERRI O’GARA MURDOCK ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship honors the memory of Terri O’Gara Murdock, who was a 1998 MSW graduate of Texas State. It acknowledges her commitment to the mission of the School as well as her contribution to the profession of social work. This scholarship is available to students in good standing accepted in the master’s degree program in the School of Social Work.
Applicant must show an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 and/or a graduate GPA of at least 3.0 as verified by an official transcript provided by the SSW office. Applicant must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA for the duration of the scholarship as verified by the SSW office.
Award Amount: Up to $1500
Number of Awards: 1 per academic year
DR. SALLY JONES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship recognizes the long-term service of Dr. Sally Jones to the School. Dr. Sally Jones was an Associate Professor with the School of Social Work. This scholarship is available to students in good standing accepted in the master’s degree program in the School of Social Work and focuses on aging and mental health. Applicant must show undergraduate and/or graduate GPA of at least 3.0 as verified by official transcript provided by the SSW office.

Award Amount: Up to $1100
Number of Awards: 1 per academic year
MOLINA SCHOLARSHIP IN SOCIAL WORK
The Molina Scholarship is open to all Master of Social Work students in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. An uploaded resume with volunteer or work experience that shows a commitment to practice with LGBTQ+ populations must be included. Include in the application an essay with two goals addressing working with vulnerable populations and LGBTQ+ populations.
Award Amount: Up to $700
Number of Awards: 1 per academic year
DAVID-LUKE HENTON AND TERRY HERNANDEZ PACHECO ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship recognizes the long-term service of Mr. David-Luke Henton and Ms. Terry H. Pacheco to the School. Mr. Henton was a Clinical Assistant Professor and Field Program administrator. Ms. Pacheco was the School’s first Administrative Assistant. This scholarship is available to students in good standing accepted in the bachelor or master’s degree programs in the School of Social Work. This scholarship rotates between MSW and BSW students. Applicant must show an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 (for BSW) or an undergraduate and/or graduate GPA of at least 3.0 (for MSW) as verified by official transcript provided by the SSW office. Applicant must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA for the duration of the scholarship as verified the SSW office
Award Amount: Up to $3000
Number of Awards: 2 per academic year
