Non-Degree Seeking Students

Overview

Students who have earned a bachelor's degree and would like to enroll in a Social Work graduate-level elective course or two for personal enrichment may apply for admission through the Graduate College as a non-degree seeking student

As a non-degree seeking student, you would not be pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. Additionally, the non-degree seeking option is not a back door into the MSW Program.  It is important to note that successful completion of any social work graduate elective does not mean the course will apply to a graduate program or the MSW degree.

The courses listed below are potential course options for a non-degree seeking student.

  • Do not submit your Non-Degree Seeking Student Application to mswprogram@txstate.edu without checking CatsWeb to see if the course you have selected is being offered in the semester you have identified.
  • Do not submit your Non-Degree Seeking Student Application to mswprogram@txstate.edu if after reviewing CatsWeb the courses you have identified are at capacity. Access to a course at capacity will not be given and this applies to a course being offered online or on the San Marcos Campus.

Once you have found the course(s) you would like to take, send your completed Graduate College Non-Degree Seeking Student Application to mswprogram@txstate.edu for consideration.

If the MSW Graduate Director approves your request to register for a social work graduate elective they will sign your Non-Degree Seeking Student application, notify the School of Social Work Program Specialist, return the application back to the student who will submit the application to the Graduate College to finish the application process.

It is the student's responsibility to reach out to the MSW Program to notify them that the Non-Degree Seeking Student Application has been processed by the Graduate College so that the overrides can be entered for the student to register for the course.
