New School of Social Work Director

Dr. Angela Ausbrooks appointed as new School of Social Work Director

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Angela Ausbrooks as Director of the School of Social Work effective August 1, 2019. 


Dr. Ausbrooks earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of North Texas, her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin, and her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin.


One year prior to completing her doctorate, Dr. Ausbrooks joined the School of Social Work faculty at Texas State University as an Assistant professor.  After earning tenure and promotion, Dr. Ausbrooks took on leadership of the Master of Social Work (MSW) program and has served as Director of the MSW Program for five years.  She held dual appointments as the Assistant Director and MSW Program Director in the School of Social Work from 2016 to 2019.


Dr. Ausbrooks has been nominated for and participated in several leadership academies:  HERS (Higher Education Resource Services) Summer Institute for female faculty and administrators at Bryn Mawr (2014); the Executive Leadership Academy sponsored by the University of California at Berkeley (2017); and the Texas Academic Leadership Academy (2018-2019) sponsored by the Texas State University System.


Dr. Ausbrooks’ research interests have focused on resilience in the areas of child welfare, children and youth in schools, trauma, cultural competence, and social justice.  Dr. Ausbrooks has conducted numerous presentations and workshops in these areas at international, national, and local conferences.  Most notably, she served as the Principal Investigator for a research and programming collaboration between the School of Social Work and the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District.  This collaboration focused on providing mental health training for school district personnel with a goal of improving services to youth in the district. 


Dr. Ausbrooks has received several College of Applied Arts teaching awards and been a member of several university-level leadership teams at Texas State.  She served as the Chair of the Student Affairs Mental Health Advisory Council and the Academic Program Review Teams for the School of Art and Design and the Counseling Center.  She is also a member of the newly formed Center for Diversity and Gender Studies Advisory Council.
